Rock the Vote releases Voting System Scorecard

Rock the Vote released a Voting Systems Scorecard, which grades each state based on voters’ ability to access the political process. The scorecard looks more specifically at barriers that might be standing in the way of young voters accessing the polls in different states.

States are graded on policies in three areas: voter registration, casting a ballot, and young voter preparation. These areas encompass issues such as voter ID, high school civics, same day registration, absentee voting, and other ballot access items. Only five states earned non-failing grades from Rock the Vote. The report explains more about each criteria, and the scorecard shows how every state did in each area.

The highest ranking state is Washington, while Pennsylvania and Rhode Island are ranked the lowest out of all 50 states and Washington DC. Amongst Network states, Illinois ranks 35, Indiana comes in at 28, Michigan is lowest at 38, Minnesota stands at 18, Ohio ranks 21, and Wisconsin is highest 13.
