Recent report examines 2008 Ohio election
COLUMBUS, Ohio—The Brennan Center for Justice’s preliminary report, “2008 Ohio Elections Summit,” was featured at an Ohio Secretary of State Election Conference, in which several MDN organizations participated.
The report’s goals aim to survey in some detail the policy concerns regarding Ohio’s election system that emerged from the December summit. Additionally, it strives to give coherent shape to the varied responses voiced by summit participants and subsequent interviewees. The Brennan Center intended to produce a document that faithfully records different points of view on Ohio election policy in an organized format that will be useful to election officials.
Lawrence Norden, counsel with the Brennan Center for Justice at New York University School of Law, helped produce the 540-page report that delineates areas of common concerns and differences among partisans. The report follows an independent path, trying not to convey bias by either favoring wider voting rights or emphasizing safeguards against voter fraud.
