Network partner releases report on Illinois redistricting

Network partner Illinois Campaign for Political Reform has released a report that chronicles the state’s 2010-2011 redistricting process, ultimately noting that little progress had been made from previous redistricting years. The state’s Democratic majority “once again relegated citizens to the sidelines, pushing through maps that furthered their political goals but which few residents had time to see, let alone review,” the Campaign said in their release.

Mapping in the Dark: Redistricting in Illinois 2011 also provides some recommendations for what the state’s General Assembly can do in the future to improve the process, including more public access to mapping tools, public hearings, and transcripts of testimonies at hearings.
