Report on inspectors general examines five offices in Illinois

The Chicago based Business and Professional People for the Public Interest (BPI) released a report this month called “Inspectors General and Government Corruption: A Guide to Best Practices and an Assessment of Five Illinois Offices.”
The report examined five inspectors general (IG) offices in Illinois: two for the state of Illinois, two for the city of Chicago, and one for Cook County. BPI examined the role of IG offices historically, the best practices for IG offices, and then how the five examined IG offices are designed, along with an assessment of their strengths and weaknesses. BPI also provides some recommendations for IG offices moving forward. IG offices have been established historically to fight corruption from within governmental bodies.
