Governments lobbying governments in Illinois

Network partner Illinois Campaign for Political Reform released a report this month on units of government hiring lobbyists to lobby state government in Springfield. The report found that local governments and public agencies spent over $7 million on lobbyists to influence officials in the capitol. This number is up from the 2009 total of $6.6 million because more units of government hired lobbyists and most units of government increased spending on lobbying from the previous year.

“We found a slight increase in payments for contracts in effect the last two years, but a large increase in the overall number of contracts,” said David Morrison, Deputy Director of ICPR. The Chicago Transit Authority, City Colleges of Chicago and the City of Metropolis, Illinois were amongst the highest spenders on lobbying in 2010.
