Demos report highlights voter registration barrier for new citizens

Demos has released a new report on immigrant voter turnout and registration showing that structural barriers still exist for new citizens when they want to register to vote. Restrictive requirements, language access, socioeconomic status, location of immigrant community, and country of origin can all have influence on ease of voter registration. The report provides some suggestions for closing this registration gap, including increased language resources, elimination of discriminatory administrative practices, and outreach by state and local officials.
