Brennan Center for Justice grades President Obama’s first 100 days
On April 27, the Brennan Center for Justice released its “Transparency in the First 100 Days: A Report Card.”
The report is meant to “evaluate the President Barack Obama administration’s record of transparency in matters bearing on national security policy.”
Having pledged a different approach to transparency than his predecessor, which according to the Brennan Center, was among the most secretive in history, the report holds President Obama’s “new era of openess” accountable for a number of issues his administration has had to deal with already.
In most of the categories the report card covered, Obama received an “A” or “B” grading, however, in the area of accountability, the grades were not as positive. Obama received an “F” for overbroad assertions of the state secrets privilege and a “D” for defense of immunity for telecommunications companies.
An explanation of the grading system and why each grade was assigned is given in the report. Go to the report card.
