Minnesota has been right in the thick of their redistricting process, with both the state house and senate introducing their proposed redistricting maps. However, the maps were drawn with little public input and appear to show a heavily partisan gerrymander, according to Professor Michael McDonald of George Mason University.

In a “fair” plan, McDonald explains in a report for Common Cause Minnesota and League of Women Voters Minnesota, a party would win 50% of the seats with 50% of the vote. However, in the proposed Minnesota maps that were drawn by Republican majorities, the Democratic-Farmer Labor party (DFL) would have to win 53.2% of the vote in order to win 50% of the seats.
