Sunlight Foundation circulates open letter to support transparency

The Sunlight Foundation is shining a light on state transparency rollbacks this week. In the wake of some state governors advocating for, or signing new laws and policies that restrict public access to government information, the Foundation is circulating a letter that will be sent to the National Governors Association telling them to stop these rollbacks and restrictions, and to keep government documents, information, and meetings free and open to the public.

Some of the examples highlighted by the Foundation include Governor Scott Walker in Wisconsin possibly violating the state’s open meetings law, Florida Governor Rick Scott charging members of the public fees to access state documents, and Utah Governor Gary Herbert signing a law to limit the public’s access to government records.

Visit the Sunlight Foundation’s page and sign the letter telling governors to support transparency in their states.
