Ohio officials say that redistricting reform is a possibility
Ohio’s state level redistricting maps have been approved by the state’s apportionment board, and now some of the members on the board are pushing for future reform, according to the Columbus Dispatch.
Secretary of State Jon Husted said that some members would consider a state constitutional amendment on redistricting, though they did not mention specific details. As a state senator, before being elected Secretary of State, Husted pushed for redistricting reform but was unable to reach a compromise with the state house.
Catherine Turcer of Network partner Ohio Citizen Action was quoted in another Dispatch article stating that she was “guardedly hopeful” that redistricting reform will happen.
The Columbus Dispatch penned an editorial on redistricting, advocating for reform and a less partisan process. They not that with some of the voices pushing for reform, particularly amongst Republicans, a deal could get done.
