Ohio Citizen Action hopes legislators will ‘hop’ back into action

Ohio Citizen Action members hopped around in front of Democratic House Speaker Armond Budish’s Beachwood law office Tuesday in a frog suit in an effort to bring Ohio’s legislature back into session.

The suit highlighted the only action taken by the legislature before their vacation since June 4, designating the bullfrog as the state frog.

Jessica Hodges of the OCA said the group wants the legislature to continue working on redistricting, foreclosure, payday lending and anti-discrimination legislation, according to The Plain Dealer.

“If we don’t get redistricting reform by Aug. 4, Ohio will have to wait 10 more years to get it,” Hodges said. “If the Ohio General Assembly can make the bullfrog the state frog and the salamander the state amphibian like they did June 3, they can address the gerrymander. Those major issues need to be put on the November ballot.”

Catherine Turcer,  director of the Money In Politics project for Ohio Citizen Action, said the group targeted Budish’s office so the House will come back into session, forcing the Senate to come back as well.
