Justice O’Connor headlines Michigan judicial selection forum

For readers and interested parties in Michigan, former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor will keynote a forum hosted by the Judicial Selection Task Force at the Wayne State University Law School on Tuesday, June 14. The forum will explore different approaches to selecting Michigan judges.
Justice O’Connor will speak in support of Arizona’s judicial selection system involving a bipartisan nominating committee which recommends justices to the governor. Former Michigan Chief Justice Clifford Taylor will also speak at the event, in support of an elected Supreme Court, as Michigan currently has.
Other speakers at the forum include Rich Robinson of Network partner Michigan Campaign Finance Network speaking on Michigan’s failure of campaign finance accountability, and Hugh Caperton, the plaintiff in the Supreme Court case Caperton v. Massey Coal Company on a first-person account of campaign spending as a threat to due process.
Network partner League of Women Voters of Michigan is also participating in the event.
For more information on the forum, including a full speakers list, visit the Wayne State University website. Registration is required, and a $10 fee will cover parking and lunch for attendees.
