Illinois legislators consider personal campaign donation limits

The Illinois Campaign for Political Reform released a statement demanding state legislators create legislation placing limits on donations they give to other candidates.

While Gov. Pat Quinn and legislative leaders consider the idea of limits placed on political parties and legislative caucuses donations, Speaker Michael Madigan and President of the Senate John Cullerton argue legislators should not be limited on their campaign donations so they can offset money donated by political action committees.

Last spring Quinn and Democratic leaders were forced to scrap legislation that would do just what Madigan and Cullerton favor.

The ICPR expects legislation to come forward during Oct. 14’s veto session. Until then, they are asking Illinois residents to call (800) 719-3020 and give legislators their opinion campaign spending limits for legislators.
