Former Chicago reporter tapped to head the Better Government Association

Local veteran political reporter Andy Shaw, was selected May 26 to become the next executive director of the Better Government Association, a Midwest Democracy Network partner organization.

Here is Shaw’s own description of the organization from his May 26 op-ed in the Chicago Sun-Times that details his decision to give up reporting for advocacy:

“The BGA is a corruption-busting watchdog group—independent, nonpartisan and funded by its members—that has been around since 1923, when civic leaders decided it was time to fight the venal administration of Mayor William “Big Bill” Thompson, who danced to the tune of mob boss Al Capone…The BGA speaks truth to power and partners with news organizations to expose waste, fraud and corruption.”
