Disclosure executive order: Press round-up

Disclosure executive order: Press round-up

President Obama’s proposed executive order on federal contractor campaign disclosure has gotten some national press this past week. Midwest Democracy Network members came out in support of the executive order last week, but the order now has some media momentum behind it.

In addition to a report on current corporate disclosure, the Los Angeles Times ran a piece on the executive order, outlining the content of the order as well as taking a look at the support and opposition. The article also mentions the letter from Public Citizen that Network groups signed on to last week.

The Baltimore Sun also ran an editorial this week in support of the executive order. The Sun takes a look at the opposition to the executive order and provides some counterpoints to their arguments. The writers conclude by saying “In the end, revealing the political activities of companies that do business with the government can only lead to one thing: Better government.”

The Anchorage Daily News also penned an editorial in support of the proposed executive order. The piece cites an Alaska disclosure measure passed last year, and that there should be a comparable requirement on the federal level. The editorial closes by saying “The president should sign the order and shed some light.”
